Synopsis Une série qui racontait les aventures de l'équipage du cargo de la marine marchande La Marie-Aude. Jo Gaillard était le commandant (et propriétaire) du navire. Costaud et quelquefois brusque, il était toutefois fort respecté de son équipage.
Pierre Dumond, originaire du Québec, était le second. L'allemand Hessling était le mécanicien. Le cuistôt et le bosco, respectivement un français et un italien, complétaient l'équipage et formaient un duo de frères ennemis dont les éternelles disputes à la Laurel et Hardy apportaient un élément comique à des aventures autrement dramatiques.
La Marie-Aude fit escale trois fois au Québec, l'une d'entre elles valant d'ailleurs à son commandant la célèbre canne à pommeau d'or du port de Montréal.
